These matter for marketing internships and summer placements. They help non-marketing students too. A finance or operations candidate who can show real digital skills stands out. In one of our courses at IIM Ahmedabad, getting certified in these was mandatory, plus the skills showed up in real internship work, not just on paper.
Certificate | Provider | What it covers | Cost |
|---|---|---|---|
Google Skillshop | Search ad campaigns and smart bidding | Free | |
Google Skillshop | Banner and display ads across websites | Free | |
Google Skillshop | CTR, CPC, conversions and campaign metrics | Free | |
Google Skillshop | Website traffic and user behaviour analysis | Free | |
HubSpot Academy | Attracting customers with content and SEO | Free | |
HubSpot Academy | Content strategy and ranking on Google | Free |
A note on names, since these moved. Google's ad certifications used to sit under different brands. They now live on Google Skillshop, which is Google's free training site. HubSpot's free courses live on HubSpot Academy. Both give you a certificate on passing the exam. Both let you retake the test if you miss.
This teaches how the ads at the top of a Google search page are built plus shown. You learn how search campaigns work and how automated, or smart, bidding decides what you pay. It is the natural first certificate to take.
Those banner ads down the side of websites and blogs are Google Display ads. This one covers how Google places relevant display ads across the web for its advertisers, plus how you target the right audience.
If terms like click-through rate, cost per click plus bounce rate are fuzzy, this fixes that. It walks through the numbers used to judge whether a campaign is working, which is the language every marketing team speaks.
A step beyond ads. Google Analytics, now in its GA4 version, shows you who visits a website, what they do plus where they drop off. Pair it with the ad certificates and you can talk about both running campaigns and reading the results.
HubSpot coined the term inbound marketing, which means pulling customers in with useful content and search optimisation rather than chasing them with ads. This certificate covers the ideas behind growing a brand's website traffic the organic way.
For anyone who wants to write, blog or understand how a page reaches the top of Google. It covers content strategy plus the techniques that make writing rank and hold a reader's attention. Useful even if you never work in marketing, because clear writing helps every role.
If you want a marketing internship, do the two HubSpot certificates plus Google Ads Search first. They show both strategy and hands-on ad skills. If you are aiming at analytics or product, start with Google Analytics plus Google Ads Measurement, since those lean on data. You do not need all six. Three well-chosen ones on a CV say more than a long list nobody reads.
Once the Google and HubSpot certificates are done, two more are worth your time if you want to go deeper. Meta Blueprint runs free courses on advertising across Instagram and Facebook, which is where a lot of consumer brands spend. Semrush Academy offers free certificates in SEO plus paid search, taught by people who work in the field. Both are recognised names, so they read well on a CV.
If your college gives you LinkedIn Learning access, its short marketing courses are a quiet advantage too. They will not carry the brand weight of a Google badge, yet they fill gaps fast when you need to understand one specific tool before an interview.
A certificate only helps if a recruiter can see it in two seconds. Put them in a short line under a Certifications heading, newest and most relevant first. Name the exact certificate and the provider, so Google Ads Search Certification, Google, reads clearer than a vague Digital Marketing Course. Skip the ones that do not fit the role you are applying for.
The stronger move is to use the skill somewhere a recruiter can check. Run a small campaign for a college club, write a few blog posts that rank, or set up analytics on a personal site. One real example of the skill in use beats three certificates with nothing behind them.

Yes. They prove digital and data skills that finance, operations plus general management roles value too. They also let you build your own website or blog, which is a strong CV signal.
Google Ads Search for advertising basics, or HubSpot Inbound Marketing for strategy. Pick the one closest to the role you want, then add a second.
