Profile

Non-engineer, IIM Ahmedabad

Academics

8.77 in Graduation, 96% in 12th, 95% in 10th

Internship

Mondelez, Sales and Marketing, converted to a PPO

Spikes

Runner-up at four national case competitions

Format

One page, five buckets

The resume, bucket by bucket

Academics

GPA of 8.77/10 in Graduation, on IIM Ahmedabad's scale. The point worth noting is that if you have lower marks in 10th, 12th that can get compensated by a higher graduation score to show an upward trend of improvement in your academic performance.

Internships and work experience

A two-month live project at Mondelez in Sales and Marketing, which converted into a Pre-Placement Offer. The framing matters here. “Live project at Mondelez, received a PPO” carries far more weight than “summer intern”, because the PPO is proof the work landed.

Positions of responsibility

First-year clubs included Niche, the Faculty Interaction Club, Prakriti, TRBS and Chaos. In the second year, the standout line was Marketing Head at TRBS. A title with a clear role beats a long list of memberships.

Extra-curricular

The spike sat here: runner-up at four national case competitions, including Colgate Palmolive, OYO, Capgemini and Kotler's Conundrum. Four national podiums in one line is the kind of entry an interviewer stops on.

How to frame a point (before and after)

The same achievement can read as forgettable or sharp depending on the words. A quick example from the same profile:

Strong version

Interned at Mondelez in marketing

Ran a two-month live project at Mondelez in Sales and Marketing, converted to a PPO

Part of the marketing club

Marketing Head, TRBS, led the club's campaigns in the second year

Did well in case competitions

Runner-up at four national case competitions across FMCG, hospitality and consulting

What I would change today

Looking back, I would tighten three things.

First, lead the extra-curricular bucket with the four case-competition podiums, since that is the strongest line on the page. Second, put a number on each club role, such as team size or event scale, so the Positions of Responsibility bucket carries weight rather than just titles. Third, drop any membership that produced no real output, because a shorter CV with sharper points always wins.

Turning a summer internship into a PPO

The single most valuable line on that CV was the PPO, so it is worth saying how it happened. Treat the internship like a long interview. Pick one project, define what success looks like in the first week and check in with your manager often enough that there are no surprises at the end.

A PPO is rarely about a flashy final presentation. It is about being someone the team would happily keep. That is what a converted offer signals to every future recruiter who reads your CV.

What this profile gets right

Three things on this CV are worth copying, whatever your own achievements are.

It shows an upward trend - better achievements in later years. It proves impact with a single line, the PPO, rather than claiming it. And it has one clear spike, the four national case-competition podiums, that gives an interviewer an obvious place to start.

You do not need the same entries. You need the same shape: a trend, a proof point and a spike.

Read your CV like an interviewer

Before you call a CV done, read it as the person across the table will. They have your one page and a few minutes, so they scan for the points that invite a question.

Every line should be able to survive a follow-up. If you write runner-up at a national case competition, be ready to explain the problem, your idea and what you would do differently. A CV is not a list of claims. It is a menu of conversations you are happy to have.

Frequently Asked Questions

What GPA do you need for IIM Ahmedabad?

There is no fixed cut-off. On this CV the GPA was 8.77 on the institute's scale. What helps more is a visible upward trend and the rest of a balanced profile.

Do you need work experience to get into IIM-A?

No. Freshers get in every year. This was a fresher profile. Work experience helps for some roles, but strong academics, spikes and well-framed achievements matter more at the application stage.

How many case competitions should I do?

Quality over quantity. A few national-level podiums say more than a long list of participation. Aim for results you can quantify.

Can I copy this resume format?

Borrow the structure and the way points are framed, not the content. Pair it with the IIM resume format guide to build your own one-page CV.

Should I list every club I joined?

No. List the roles where you did something worth noting. A long list of memberships with no outcomes weakens the page. One club where you led a campaign beats five you only attended.

How do I write CV points that stand out?

Start each point with a strong verb, add the scale or result and keep it to one line. Compare led a team versus led a team of 12 to a runner-up finish. The second tells the reader everything in a glance.
