You don't apply to IIMs separately. The CAT form is the application.
This is the part first-timers get wrong. There's no separate form for each IIM. When you register for CAT, you apply to all of them through that single form. You pay the registration fee only once, no matter how many IIMs you're aiming at. After results, each IIM builds its own shortlist from the CAT pool and calls candidates for its own selection round.

The two-year, full-time MBA or PGP is the flagship at every IIM and the programme most CAT aspirants are after. The other codes are specialised or executive versions, some for working professionals, some in analytics, healthcare or supply chain. Before you set a target, open the IIM's own website and read the eligibility and admission process for the exact programme you want, because each one sets its own terms.
Don't fixate only on the old six.
Everyone chases Ahmedabad, Bangalore and Calcutta. The cutoffs show it. But the newer IIMs have built sharp, specialised MBAs that didn't exist a decade ago. Jammu runs an MBA in AI and Business Analytics. Bodh Gaya has one in Hospital and Healthcare Management. Sirmaur focuses on tourism and hospitality. Mumbai, the former NITIE, runs operations and supply chain and sustainability MBAs. If your goal is a specific function, a newer IIM with a focused programme can beat a general MBA at a bigger brand. I've watched students write off a good fit because the name wasn't famous enough, then struggle at a general programme that didn't match their plan.
CAT feeds more than the two-year MBA.
Every IIM listed also runs a Fellow Programme in Management, the FPM or PhD. Several also offer executive and doctoral tracks for working professionals. Many of these use the CAT score as one entry route. If research or a later-career return is on your mind, the same score can open those doors too.
Your CAT score works beyond the IIMs.
The bulletin confirms that listed non-IIM member institutions are allowed to use CAT 2026 scores. The current list lives on iimcat.ac.in. Well-known names like FMS Delhi, SPJIMR, MDI Gurgaon and IMT take CAT scores through their own separate forms. The IIMs have no role in how those schools select, so track each one's deadline yourself. Some close their forms before CAT even happens.

Look past the brand to the programme. The older IIMs have the highest cutoffs, but a newer IIM with a focused MBA in your target function can be a better fit. Read each institute's own eligibility and admission page before deciding.
