IIM Calcutta was incorporated in November 1961 and is the first of the Indian Institutes of Management. Its two-year MBA has now graduated more than sixty batches; the school reports placement figures for the flagship programme on its own, rather than blending them with other courses.
The MBA’s total fee is ₹27 lakh. The PGDBA costs ₹27 lakh including hostel. The MBAEx costs ₹33.5 lakh. The PGPEX-VLM costs ₹13.5 lakh (tuition only).
The MBA’s average was ₹36 lakh for 2026. The PGDBA’s average was ₹30 lakh for 2024. The MBAEx’s average was ₹35.37 lakh for 2025. The PGPEX-VLM’s average was ₹24.57 lakh for 2026.
General-category applicants need at least 85 percentile overall in CAT and 80, 80 and 75 in VARC, DILR and QA to be considered. These are floors; admitted candidates usually score higher.
General candidates were shortlisted at 52.74 on the institute's composite score for 2024–26, up from 51.3 the year before but below 56.49 two years earlier — the bar moves around, according to third-party figures.
