A quick clean-up first. A lot of old internship lists rank sites by Alexa, which Amazon shut down in 2022, plus they still name platforms that have since closed. The list below is the current set that gets students hired.
Site | Best for |
|---|---|
The default for Indian student internships, across fields | |
Internships plus competitions and case challenges (was Dare2Compete) | |
Range of roles, plus cold outreach to recruiters | |
Broad job and internship search with filters | |
Startup roles (the platform earlier called AngelList Talent) | |
Entry-level roles and government or PSU openings |
Start with Internshala. It is the most used internship platform in India, with roles across marketing, finance, tech, content plus research, many open to first and second years. Unstop comes next. It mixes internships with the corporate competitions we covered in an earlier post, so you can build your profile plus win prizes on the same site. Set up a complete profile on both, since recruiters on these platforms often search plus reach out to students directly, not just the other way round.
If you want a startup, go to Wellfound, which used to be called AngelList Talent. Startups hire interns who can take real ownership, so the work is often meatier than at a large firm. Reach out directly to founders through the platform. Smaller teams reply faster than big HR queues, plus a founder who likes your note can decide to take you on in a single conversation.
LinkedIn is two tools in one. You can search posted internships, plus you can message people at companies you like. A short, specific note to the right person beats a hundred cold applications. Indeed plus FreshersWorld round it off with volume, good filters plus a lot of entry-level and fresher roles in one place.
The site is only the start. Three things do the real work. First, tailor your CV to each role instead of sending one generic file. Second, do not wait for a listing. Cold email founders or managers at places you admire, since many internships never get posted. Third, apply early. Good summer roles fill months ahead, so a head start beats a perfect application sent late.
One more thing decides how much an internship helps: the work, not the brand. A stretch of real ownership at a small firm teaches you more than fetching coffee at a famous one. When you get a call, ask what you will really do plus who you will report to. A role where you own a small project, talk to customers or ship something gives you the CV points plus stories that matter later. Chase the work first, the logo second.
If you want something more academic, a research internship under a professor is another strong option. I have written a separate guide on how to land one. For everything else, the sites above are where to begin.
Beyond the big names, a few smaller platforms help for specific fields. Cutshort plus Hirect lean toward tech and startup roles, with faster recruiter chats than a traditional job board. The Apna app has grown fast for entry-level plus city-based roles. Glassdoor is useful less for applying plus more for reading company reviews plus salary ranges before you say yes. You do not need accounts on all of them. Add one only if it fits the field you are targeting.
Do not spread yourself across a dozen sites. Older lists still push platforms that have shut down or gone quiet, so a name being on some ranking from a few years ago means little today. Pick two or three that match your goal, set up a strong profile on each plus check them on a fixed day every week. A focused search on a few good sites beats a scattered one across many.
Internshala, for range plus volume across fields. Pair it with Unstop for internships and competitions, plus LinkedIn for direct outreach to recruiters.
Wellfound, the platform earlier known as AngelList Talent, is built for startup roles. Message founders directly, since small teams reply faster and offer interns more real ownership.
Not always. Many internships are never posted. A tailored cold email to a founder or manager at a company you admire often works better than mass applications.
Months ahead. Good roles fill early, so an average application sent in time usually beats a polished one sent late.
