100 Days to CAT: Ask Anything Regarding Prep

Hi Shweta ma’am and everyone in the community,

I really need some honest guidance because I’m genuinely struggling with my CAT preparation and my mock performance is making me lose confidence.

I have around 100 days left, and I’ve completed only around 40% of the syllabus.

My recent IMS mock scores have been:

15 → 29 → -1 → 17 → 5 → 5 → 10 → 8

I’m practicing daily, but I’m not seeing any consistent improvement in my mock scores.

Here’s where I currently stand:

QA:
I’m able to solve PYQs, questions posted in the community, and other practice problems. However, it usually takes me around 5–10 minutes per question. So I feel I can solve many questions, but I’m much too slow.

VARC:
This is probably my biggest problem. I’m struggling even to read and properly engage with an RC passage during practice/mocks. I’m not able to understand how to approach RCs, and consequently my VARC score is very low.

DILR:
I would rate myself around 6/10. I can solve sets during practice, although I’m not yet consistent.

The biggest problem I’ve noticed is this:

I can solve PYQs and other questions when I practice. I can also solve questions from a mock after the mock is over. But during the actual mock, I’m unable to solve them.

This is what is confusing and frustrating me the most.

Another issue is that my mock analysis takes 1–2 days for every mock. By the time I finish analyzing one mock, a lot of time has already gone.

I’m practicing every day, but I feel like I’m putting in effort without knowing whether I’m doing the right things.

I genuinely don’t know where I’m going wrong.

With only around 100 days left, I’m scared that I’m wasting time and that I won’t be able to improve enough.

Shweta ma’am and everyone in the community, please help me understand:

1. What exactly could be causing such a huge difference between my practice performance and mock performance?
2. Should I continue giving full-length mocks at this stage or focus more on building concepts/sectionals?
3. How should I analyze my mocks so that it doesn’t take 1–2 days?
4. How should I approach RC from scratch when I’m struggling even to read the passage properly?
5. What should my strategy be for the next 100 days considering that I’ve completed only ~40% of the syllabus?
6. Most importantly, what should I change in my preparation from tomorrow?

I’m not looking for motivation alone. I would really appreciate a practical, actionable plan from people who have faced something similar or from Shweta ma’am.

I’m willing to work hard. I just need to know where to direct that effort.

arithmetic is fine, but being a non math student, algebra is being a big problem rn, i can do geometry and related topics but core algebra topics just dint seem to be my cup of tea, can u suggest some topics that i can prepare for, even if it helps me do 1 more question, it is fine

Hello ma'am. I completed my graduation in B.A history(HONS) last year . I was preparing for ssc but because of extreme uncertainty around it and with no backup plan, I decided to start preparing for CAT . I came across percentyl and started my preparation targeting CAT 2027. Since i dont have much guidance ,I am feeling quite anxious and unsure whether I am approaching my preparation in the right direction.i would really appreciate if you could share some tips and guidance.

I was also planning to geta job to build some work experience, as my profile is mainly academic at this moment. However, before that i thought that i should prepare a strong foundation and also give CAT and ZAT this year just to understand the pattern of exam so that I can manage work and studies together.

Most people around me are telling me that without work experience and a strong profile it's extremely difficult to get into a tier 1 B school . Maam your perspective and guides would help me a lot to understand things and take my preparation in right direction.

Shweta Di, guide me on all three sections.

VARC Target: I want to get at least 40-45+ marks from this section
VARC Reality: I can consistently maintain an accuracy in the range of 70-80% on any given day, but my problem is that I am not able to attempt more than 18 questions, so crossing 40+ from this single section is getting difficult. RCs I solve in avg 7-8 Mins, but VA Q.s take upwards of 2 mins, so they are hurting my attempts.

DILR Target: I want to score at least 30 marks in this section
DILR Reality: I can solve sets, but it takes me an average of 25-30+ mins, so in mocks, either I am solving 1 set or sometimes even less. Avg score from this section is in the range of 9-15 only, so how to go about this so that I can solve at least 2 sets on any given day in 40 mins till SEP end and also hit my target eventually.

QA Target: Want to achieve more than 90th percentile in this section, wherever it may fall
QA Reality: Arithmetic is good (except TSD), on a good day, I am able to solve 5-6 Q.s from it, but other topics are not good, so I eventually end up solving 6-7 Q.s only (sometimes even less) from the whole section.

1. VARC

VARC is currently my weakest section. I find it difficult to attempt all four questions of an RC accurately. My biggest problem is that I often get confused between two options, where one is correct and the other is a close but incorrect option. I struggle to identify the subtle difference between them and eliminate the wrong option.

I want to understand:

How can I improve my RC accuracy?
How can I eliminate the final incorrect option when I am stuck between two choices?
How can I identify why one option is correct while the other is subtly wrong?
How can I improve my VARC score without spending too much time on each RC?
What approach should I follow while reading and attempting RCs?
2. Quantitative Aptitude

I am generally doing well in Quant. I can understand concepts and solve questions quickly. However, I frequently make silly mistakes that negatively affect my score.

Sometimes, while solving a question, I know that I can solve it, but because of a small calculation, interpretation, or logical mistake, I end up spending 4–5 minutes on it or sometimes fail to solve it. Later, when I look at the solution, I realize that the mistake was very small and that I actually knew the concept.

Another issue is that within the first few seconds of seeing a question, I can recognize that it is a type of question I should be able to solve. However, after spending some time on it, I get stuck and sometimes cannot solve it even though I know the concept and general approach.

I want to understand:

How can I reduce silly mistakes in Quant?
How can I recognize when I am going in the wrong direction?
How can I avoid spending 4–5 minutes on a question that I should be able to solve?
How can I improve my execution of known concepts under time pressure?
How should I analyze questions where I knew the concept but couldn't solve them during the test?
How can I improve my calculation accuracy?
3. DILR

In DILR, I am able to solve medium-to-hard sets. However, my solving time is inconsistent. Sometimes I can solve a set quickly, while on other occasions, a similar-level set takes me 15–20 minutes.

I don't understand why there is such a large variation in my solving time. I also struggle with calculations, especially in DI sets. Manual calculations take time, while using the on-screen calculator sometimes makes the process slower or leads to calculation mistakes.

I also make many silly calculation errors in both Quant and DILR, which costs me marks.

I want to understand:

Why does my DILR solving time vary so much even when I can solve similar-level sets?
How can I improve my set selection and identify the right approach faster?
How can I reduce the time spent on calculations in DI sets?
When should I calculate manually and when should I use the on-screen calculator?
How can I improve calculation speed and accuracy?
How can I reduce silly mistakes in DILR?

what if we didn't score good in cat ? and not get any good colleges ? is it good to do CFA and go for 3rd tier MBA Colleges ?

I struggle with question selection while timer based mock. How to select questions?

hello I feel I haven't took my prep seriously till now. now I have only 100 days left can I do it if I start preparing seriously from now and if yes how much should I study per day bcz I don't know where I stand bcz I really want to do this year pls help me

what are some good platforms if you want to practice hard mocks and what should be the idle amount of mocks and sectionals one should solve?

I am losing motivation, and doubting myself. I have seen improvement in my mock scores but no matter what I do, I feel like it is not enough. And I am stressed honestly, so much so that my physical health is getting affected and that is scaring me more. Sorry for the rant.

Hi Shweta mam, i am doing my preparation with only youtube videos and this website, thank you so much for making such a resource pool which is very helpful for aspirants like me. now getting to the point, i have been only watching videos and solved the questions given in them, i had barely practiced any question for quants except given in the video, in quants i have covered arithmetic and linear and quadratic equations in algebra. i cant bring myself to start with dilr, it scares me- i dont know where to start and how to manage it. i will rate myself a 0 on 10 for DILR. I am a literature graduate, BA Eng Hons so my VARC is naturally strong, i had appeared for cat last year and got 92 percentile in VARC despite not studying for it at all, i have realised that i got that score by attempting many questions and got many incorrect too- so to improve this i started attempting less and focused on getting a higher accuracy but it seems to have backfired and on an average i attempt 13-14 questions and get only 5-7 correct. how should i proceed now?

I haven't even completed arithmetic completely then I have to do algebra also
Even with dilr i struggle most of the times
Varc is something which I am on a good track and will improve more with time
I have given full mocks and my scores have been from 35-40 i want to improve more but idk how to do it

I need your guidance regarding my CAT preparation. I started in July and, according to my schedule, my syllabus should be completed by mid-September. However, I’m taking much longer than expected, especially in Quant.

My biggest problem is that I can solve questions while watching concept videos, but when I attempt practice questions independently, I often go blank. I then look at different question varieties and solutions to understand the approach. Because of this, one topic takes much longer than planned.

I also struggle with a “sense of completion.” If I move to a new topic and later fail to solve a question from an old topic, I feel I need to go back and study it again. This creates a cycle of revising old topics instead of moving forward.

I study around 8–10 hours daily, but Quant consumes most of my time and mental energy. By the time I reach VARC and LRDI, I’m exhausted. VARC is comparatively comfortable for me, but I’m not able to practice it consistently.

For LRDI, I’ve covered most of the basics and understand approaches when they’re taught. But when I attempt mixed sets independently, I struggle to structure the information, identify where to start, and decide the right approach. Because of this, I sometimes delay LRDI practice.

There are around 100 days left, and despite covering most of the syllabus and solving many questions, I still lack confidence.

I would really appreciate your guidance on:

1. Should I put a strict time limit on Quant and move on without completely mastering every topic?
2. Should I prioritise VARC and LRDI earlier in the day when my energy is higher?
3. How should I stop myself from repeatedly revisiting topics whenever I get a question wrong?
4. How can I improve my independent approach to LRDI sets?
5. With 100 days left, should I focus on finishing the remaining syllabus or shift more towards practice, mixed questions and mocks?

I feel my problem is not lack of effort, but spending too much time trying to achieve perfection in individual topics
I so dumb at this point of time that even after practing this much i feel like i know nothing. Please help me structure the next 100 days better.

I am not able to properly focus. Like, I sit down to study, and then after maybe one or two days, I start losing focus, and then I am scrolling on my phone. What should I do to improve my focus and consistency?

Hi Shweta di. I was finding few topics difficult to understand and I was also failing to be consistent every single day along with my job. So I purchased the Cracku 100 day crash course. I got some motivation because I have become comparatively much more consistent than before. But it still feels like within such a short period will that be possible. I'll have Sat and Sun off in the classes. Also, I didn't quit my office di..my boss offered me work from home for 5 hours per day until my exams. So that I can simultaneously manage both. During the WFH also I'll have Sat and Sun off. How should I prepare di so that I could crack the top IIMs.
I have got concept clarity for most of the chapters by watching videos on this website. But I'm still lagging in VARC and also I didn't practice much. What should I do di? Could you please guide me.

I feel in daily challenges there are MCQ's and in CAT there is negative marking in MCQ's.
So, If we have negative marking we can also practice eliminate the question because if I mark any answer now it has no negative marking.

Hello mam, My varc scores are fluctuating , i gave cat 2019-21 varc sectionals in that i scored very low i dont know what i am doing . I wanted to give CAT this year to get an idea and understanding . My quants is average, kindly help me this. I am getting anxious because i am in my final year of BBA , palcements are not that much good and my CAT prep is not going to get a seat in top b school. I am totally confused what to do and not to do.

For next cat 2027 , i preparing with college of 9-5 , then i want to prepare for cat daily 6 hours and in weekends to 15 hours

now from aug to next aug 2027 phase 1 to complete entire syallabus

200days for only quant by 100 hours of percentyl app
80 days for only dilr by 40 hours of percentile app
80 days for only varc by 40 hours of percentile app

total of 380 days with remain days of includ my semesters exams
with 1 hour of class like + notes making and practise many questions daily with total of 6 hours of daily ,because I was doing college also

next sept ,oct ,nov almost 70 days with full mock of section wise around 75 +


by this strategy can I score 99.99 percentile for each session

because I want to get fms as core and first priority

Hi all, just wanted to know my current situation as in where I stand with respect to my preparation. I am currently giving TIME mocks also I have given couple of other mocks as well (Total 15+ till now) and planning to take IMS mocks from next month as well. What I see, that my scores have ranged from 40-75 in mocks. Seriously idk if I am doing enough or not. Good mocks make me feel confident and bad mocks make me feel demotivated. Currently I have tried solving CAT 2023 all slots untimed, and it has made me question my preparation. Can you give me any tips, how can I feel more motivated and keep up with the grind? I always tell myself no matter how bad the days are, just keep up with the consistency.

Hello Mam, I am facing a issue with DILR I am able to solve questions without timer or outside the exam ,but during exam time pressure for some reason mind getting blank and unable to pick the proper sets and solve .But after the test if I sit and analyse i can easily see I have missed 2 sets which can be done. How can we overcome this ? I remember you saying DILR was you favorite and strongest section did you face this kind issue or how to overcome this?

I am mainly struggling with RCs. I used to
spend around 12-15 min. on an rc followed your video, but it was affecting my accuracy. So I decided to understand the RCs in detail by asking chatgpt to brief them and explain the main idea. However things are still not working. It also takes me a lot of time. Basically whether it is QA, DILR, or VARC .I am taking too much time to solve ques and my accuracy is still a problem.😞🥲
And the major problem I’m facing is with mock analysis. I haven’t been able to find a proper or effective way to analyse my mocks ,so I’m not sure how to identify my mistakes and improve from them.🫥

I am somewhere doing good i feel the problem is about work ex . I had 6 month of experience the i decided to give cat last year but i could only score 91 so i decided to give it another go this year . this was the backstory
The problem here is that i decided not to work again and instead focus on prep again as nmat results ended around march so i dont have any workexp to show or strengthen my gap year . what i have done is just worked for some ngo,s thats it .
Prep though is going good with constantly score 40-45 plus in varc and 100% accuracy in arithmetic and numbers (Dilr being GODS PLAN) , but the gap year thing is killing me.. any suggestions what should i do or like is it okay if i do some certifications after xat before interviews

Didi i am following
1. For Quant- I am doing from previous year elitesgrid course, and my doubt is like i have done ratio or any chapter like then how to practice it? and how much i should practice and from where? Like if i am doing with watching video i want to practice quality question so that i can able to do well in CAT exam. I have arun sharma pdf so like i should do from there like i should go for selective topics or how i should do

2. For DILR- Same elitesgrid course but when i see pyq's from book it seem like it is an mixture of DI with other concepts. Like i am doing arrangements and when i see pyq , it seem like soo many things are there not just arrangements and here i feel demotivated when i will complete lecture then i have to do majority 2017-2025 pyqs and then i also have to give mocks and there is very less time.

3. For VARC- This is my weakest part. I dont have reading habit and vocab is a bit poor. I am following VARC 1000 and like try to solve 1 RC from percentyl then increase it to 2-3 per day from sept onwards.


Please provide me guidance, i started preparation from 10 August and like i am from engineering background but i still need to cover concept i dont have any fear from maths or reasoning but i just need to cover and practice once then it will be fine.

Hi Shweta Di, please guide me. I’m feeling scared and demotivated about my CAT preparation. My Maths has always been weak, so I practice a lot of Quant questions, but many still don’t get solved. Because of this, I spend too much time on the same topics and struggle to move ahead.

VARC is average—sometimes I get all 4 RC questions right, but sometimes only 2 or even 0. Para-jumbles are my weakest area, while I can do Para Summary with around 80% accuracy.

In Quant, I’ve covered only Percentage, Ratio-Proportion and Linear Equations. I’ve spent almost 2 months on just 2–3 topics and still lack confidence. I haven’t attempted mocks because I’m scared. **Is it still possible for me to make my Quant strong in the remaining 100 days?**

In DILR, I’ve covered arrangements, distribution, tables, puzzles, maps, networks, games and tournaments. I attempt 3–4 sets daily; some I can solve, while others require hints. However, I think I’ve mainly attended lectures for some DILR topics and haven’t solved enough questions from all of them. Games & Tournaments feels especially difficult to me. If I had to rate my current DILR level, I would give myself only **4/10**.

I have around 100 days left, and I’m really confused about what I should do from here. Please guide me on what I should focus on, what I should stop doing, and how I can improve my overall preparation without getting stuck on the same topics.:::

My target is 35+ in VARC.

In regular practice, my accuracy is good and fairly consistent, but I’m struggling to replicate it in sectionals/mocks. I usually score around 20 marks, with my current strategy being 2 RCs + 8 VA.

My main issues:

- RC: I take around 10–11 min/RC. Sometimes I overthink and change my initially correct answer to a wrong one.
- Para Summary: Good accuracy, but takes 2–3 min/question.
- Sentence Insertion: Similar issue — accuracy is good but takes too much time.
- Sectionals: Performance is inconsistent, which affects my confidence.

I want guidance on:

1. What strategy should I follow to reach 35+?
2. Should I stick to 2 RC + 8 VA or move to 3 RCs?
3. What should be my ideal time split?
4. How do I reduce RC time and stop overthinking?

hello mam , im facing problem in each sections even after soo much efforts.
1; VARC - i read aeon & newspaper daily and i solve daily rc challenge but the accuracy is not increasing even though i know the theme of the passage but idk why i did wrong regularly my accuracy is 1/4 or 2/4 only and also i take mocks and pyqs to test my self but pj and rc is weaker point.
2 LRDI - im facing problems in most di topics while completing its syllabus in lr i have completed them with pratice but venn diagram is tricky and weak point where i cant solve more sets
3 QUANTS - i am planning a strategy as im from a non engineer background i think to complete only number system -then arithematic and lastly alegebra's some topics not everything because im not able to complete my syllabus till now and i have to do revision sectional and mock too can you sugest me something for each of the sections mam?

​DILR: Consistently solving 1 set correctly, but I am struggling to move up to 2 or 3 sets.

Hi Shweta Ma’am, I’m a CAT 2026 aspirant and I’ve been feeling quite lost about my preparation lately and I really need some guidance on what I should be doing differently.

I have been studying consistently, but my mock scores have been very unpredictable. My AIMCAT scores have mostly been in the 30s and 40s, I recently scored 26 in one mock, while I’ve also managed to score 70 in another. The difference between these scores has honestly made me quite confused and demotivated. There are times when I feel that maybe I am improving and that I can do well, and then one bad mock makes me question whether I’m actually preparing in the right direction.

I also struggle with things like time management, choosing the right questions/sets, and sometimes I just don’t feel mentally clear during the test. I do analyse my mocks and try to work on my mistakes, but I still feel like I’m not able to translate that effort into consistent improvement.

I’m aiming for a very high percentile in CAT and I know I still have around 100 days, but at this point I’m honestly not sure what “enough” preparation looks like or what I should prioritise. There is so much to do—concepts, practice, sectionals, mocks, analysis—and sometimes I feel overwhelmed trying to figure out what will actually make the biggest difference to my score.

I would really be grateful if you could look at my situation and tell me honestly what you think I should focus on from here. Should I change the way I’m analysing my mocks, spend more time on sectionals, focus on concepts, or simply practise more? And how can I work towards making my performance more consistent?

I know I still have time, and I really want to make the most of these next few months. I just don’t want to spend that time working hard in the wrong direction. Any advice from you would genuinely mean a lot to me. Thank you so much, Ma’am.

I have been studying daily for almost 6-8 hrs but I have been facing a few issues . Please guide me for the same .
1) In VARC my marks are ranging just between 10 - 20 . How do i take this to 30 + . I am able to solve VA but in RC i make a lot of mistakes.
2) my overall mock scores are ranging between 30-40 . After the mock is over i try to analyse then i am able to make more right decision on what i should skip or the ones I should have attempted.
3) When i am giving sectional tests of QA i am able to score better than when i am giving full length mocks.
4) For LRDI and QA , I keep on making silly mistakes that drops my score or because I panic , I cannot even read the paper properly and the entire screen appears blur to me

Please tell how do i improve from this.

If i get a good tier 2 or normal tier 2 or in worst case tier 3 should i go for it or look for private college for mba considering i cannot afford cat next year. if you are suggesting pvt than let me know some good private college because i have no idea except IILM univeristy where my father;s boss family everyone does mba from .

hello mam i am confusing about cracking cat because i was not able to consecnt because of college paper and now only 100 days is left i have only complete my arthimetic in quant and in dilr i have only completed 40 percent syallbus and i have joined time 2 years batch and i fell that i wasted my 2 years i have give 6 time mock and my score is 14 16 11 24 -4 3 i am felling demotivated please help me what can i do

Didi mere se quant k sawal ban nahi Raha hai. As a non math background student I feel the motivated every single day. But on the other hand in VARC section , previously my accuracy rate was higher than 70%. but recently I don't know what happened my accuracy rate taunt into below 40. At this point of time I feel extremely first rated I don't know because at the same time I am balancing for my college studies and it is too hard to balance this two. I have also one query that I have a passport size photo with blue background should I use that in the form fill up section or if I changed it in chat GPT changed in white background so is there any difficulties or is there any problem? Please please let me know.

MamI am facing a lot of difficulty in lrdi, please tell me the approach to solve it and tell me some trick to improve it...please mam

Hey shweta ma'am and other community members!

I really want some advice. Sometimes I am pretty confident about CAT but on the other hand, sometimes I feel very demotivated and negative. I guess the reason being is time management and VARC.

1) QA : Arithmetic + Algebra are going very good (touch wood).
My focus is to solve questions only from arithmetic+ algebra as they contain roughly around 15 questions. My target percentile is 99 in this particular section. I would rate this at 8/10 because I'm doing silly mistakes such as calculations and misinterpretation. Time is not an issue here. And I think that I should leave geometry and modern maths.

2) LRDI : I am able to solve sets but it takes me 25-30 minutes to solve it. In some sets, it doesn't click me in one go about how should I start. I find some sets difficult but some easy. I really need your advice regarding time management in this section, how should I start a set and some strategies if u can suggest. Also I find DI easy as compared to LR. Overall, I would rate a 6/10. I'm aiming for 99 percentile in this section as well.

3) VARC : This is the biggest problem. The section where I create a lot of blunder. Ma'am, please advice me about how to solve this section. How should I approach an RC. My mentor used to say just read the first and last line of every paragraph. Online resources says read the first and last paragraph carefully and skim through the middle ones. Some say to first read the questions and then read the RC. Some say to read the entire passage first and then jump on to questions. Sometimes I am not able to figure out why the particular option was right and others were wrong. Sometimes I am not able to understand what the passage is saying. Ma'am, please share your strategy, tips/tricks, advice for this section..My target percentile is above 95.

Talking about my preparation
I really wanna know if I am on the right track or not
For varc - I am able to get the passage and everything though face lack of interest in reading but I am trying for that too increase the attention spam , apart from that I have recently changed my strategy of solving rc using aaaramb academy lokesh sir videos that seem to be working for me
I have no issue with time as such but need to work on the accuracy part a lot ( it around 45% acc to latest mock but it was quite better in the previous mock)
But i really need the accuracy part

As Score in varc is much lower than expected

For the dilr part : i seriously lost all my confidence after i get into ven diagram and games and tournament especially but I gathered up the confidence and started with another topic so that pace goes on i
I am trying to solve atleast 3-4 set everyday from mba pathshala series by Vijay sir and his old series from ims ( same sir ) cause his the only one whose points i can understand and would i highly recommend anyone else too

I am just scared about the lrdi part as i thi k i might be covering the easier topic for now and sets in paper actually quite tough
But i am trying to do a variety of sets everyday

For quants - covered arithmetic and algebra
But after algebra ( expect function) I was almost lost in arthimetic so I stared revising and almost completed the revision and on a good day i am able to solve ques from these topic after i complete tsd from the arthimetic part i ll revising algebra + starting geometry as well this is my aim for the quants for now
and here is what I follow in quants : use pw wallah Rahul's sir videos for solving and then pyq solution and then practise ques and test in percentyl platform ( though not scoring much but my solving each and every ques after the test to analyse the mistake)
I just like to know
1) am I on right path
2) what else should I focus
3) any tip from your side
4) please recommend something for lrdi as well
I have been studying really consistent and trying and ready to put in all the efforts but i am scared too if this the right thing I am doing as i have been following and preparing by my own. U HAVE BEEN GREAT MENTOR MAM

My quant and lrdi scores are stagnant and not improving where in varc i am attempting but due to close option I am lossing marks and my actual potential in varc is 25-30 marks but ends up scoring in 17-18 any solution to it how should I approach these section and how should I improve my quant and lrdi too much confusion that in lrdi from where should I start to actually see the momentum same in qa

Hi di, we want practise questions + topic tests of Para Completion in the VARC section. It would be of great help. Also, I would really like to appreciate the quality and level of the topic tests of QA . Also since the last 10 days, the DILR sets have been really nice, great to learn and practice.
