How do you all make sense of complex sentences in RCs?

For example, there was this sentence in today's RC: "We find affecting in decay what, were the building our own and whole, we should labour to prevent"

This statement is the paradox that the author talks about. It means that we are emotionally touched by decay or ruins, but if that was our own building and it was whole then we'll do everything to prevent it from decay. So that's the paradox- We get emotionally touched at the sight of a ruined building but we also labour to prevent our own building from getting decayed.

If you find a complex statement then keep reading and at the end of the Paragraph you'll understand what it meant. You don't need to understand every line, you need to have an overall understanding of every paragraph.
