Gave my first VARC sectional today

Asked by Anonymous on 2026-08-02 in CAT Prep

So It has been 2 week since I started preparing for CAT. I thought VARC was gonna be my section where i will maximise my score.

I have solved good number of RCs and VA questions from percentyl and comfortably did well but when i gave my first sectional today under time pressure i could score only 26 marks. I attempted 18 questions in total and got 11 correct and 7 incorrect.

It was last years CAT paper slot 1, the difficulty lvl of questions was up and also giving it under 40 minutes made it just worse.

I need a feedback and some guidance on how i should approach this section now? What are the things i can do to improve and what should be my strategy to score 40+ in varc.

First things first. Build laser focus, accuracy and reading stamina. Solve 4-5 CAT level RCs back to back without distractions and read slowly, do not rush and focus on getting answers correct. Keep doing this and over time speed will improve. Second thing is give a lot of sectionals and give your best to attempt all the RCs and 4-5 VA questions....because RC is your major score booster and VA can be tricky, time-consuming or have ambiguity in it's solution.

Use bodheeprep, RC99 and PYQs. These will help you a lot.
