How to improve mock score?

Asked by Priya on 2026-07-30 in CAT Prep

Hi everyone,

I'm preparing for CAT and I'm feeling completely stuck. No matter what I do, my mock scores seem to stay in the 35–40 marks range. I analyze every mock(TIME mocks), practice regularly, and try to work on my weak areas, but I don't see any significant improvement.

At this point, I honestly feel like giving up because it feels like all the effort I'm putting in isn't translating into better scores.

Has anyone here gone through a similar phase? If yes, what helped you break out of this plateau? Did you change your preparation strategy, mock analysis, revision, or practice routine?

I'd really appreciate any practical advice or suggestions from people who managed to improve from this score range. Thank you.

Hi Priya, most of us are going through the same phase right now. As I spoke to a few mentors, most of them say that this is pretty normal - we shouldn't expect our mock scores to change in a short while. It can take some time. We should just be consistent about analyzing our mistakes and working on them. Also, if you are doubtful about your strategy, try getting it reviewed by an experienced CAT taker.

Time mocks are higher in difficulty than the actual CAT level, that's why you feel so.

Hey! I was in the same loop too few mocks back.. Don't be disheartened. It will pass. What worked for me is that before giving the next full length mock, after analyzing and practicing the wrong questions - practice few more questions from the weak areas >> Give 1- 2 topic test and if you can squeeze in a sectional too (would be great) Then you would surely be able to see progress in next mock. Hope this helps :)
