how to improve VARC score?

Asked by KHUSHI on 2026-09-02 in CAT Prep

I am currently unable to clear the cutoff for this section, as well as for the overall exam. My mock performance has been disappointing. However, when I attempt the VARC section in the mocks, I feel confident that I have done well, but the results suggest otherwise. Although I tend to have better accuracy and perform well in the sectional tests, my performance in the mocks is completely different. How can I improve this?

Focus more on mock analysis since you feel confident while attempting but still get a lot wrong check the questions you were sure about and see where you’re going wrong misreading overthinking or choosing the wrong option also try being a little more selective with your attempts especially with 50 50 options since your sectionals are better keep doing them and work on bringing that accuracy into your mocks

Which mock did you attempt?

To read and understand RC effectively, read for the author's structure rather than speed. As you finish each paragraph, identify why the author wrote it—are they introducing a claim, providing evidence, or qualifying an earlier counterargument? When eliminating options, disqualify choices that exaggerate the author's certainty, use absolute words (all, never, solely), or introduce outside assumptions.

For structured practice with verified option elimination walkthroughs on actual exam passages, you can reference the past CAT RCs on https://thinkcat.in/cat-reading-comprehension-pyqs
