You can first start preparing for CMAT exam...it's comparatively easy than CAT.
And then, take gap year and start preparing for CAT...it helps u understand the core idea of exam ans syllabus too.
And trust me, it's really okay having a gap year.

Now on CAT, don't panic if you start by selective topics and practicing with full focus without caring fully about marks . you will see some improvement, then surely you can proceed further. if you look at weigthage of toipcs and how much you need to score 90, 95,99 then you'll understand that you can do it by devoting your energy on some important topics first.
