Sectional Prep suggestion for someone who has more than a year to prepare

Asked by Anonymous on 2026-07-20 in CAT Prep

I had this confusion and I wanted to ask that for my CAT Exam, for which I have more than a year to prep for, should I focus on one section right now and pick up other sections later on.

I believe quants has a wide syllabus, so I was wondering if I should do quants daily to complete the syllabus and give test and do reading and vocab side by side and keep DILR and VARC on hold.

What would you suggest?
I am giving daily targets, will that be ok for now?
Or should I manage all 3 sections together?
Shweta Di, if you could also answer!

youre right about qa syllabus being vast, and yes since you have more than one year to prepare, go for completing full arithmetic first. this will also help you later in lrdi. once all chapters of arithmetic are done, youll have covered about 40% of qa. after that you can start doing 1 topic of each section per day to move forward with your prep. you can begin with 1-2 rcs, 1-2 lrdi sets and 5-10 qa questions from algebra next, daily. this will align your prep of all 3 sections

Don't put VARC or DILR on hold—CAT rewards balanced preparation across all three sections.
Study QA daily, but also practice 1–2 RCs and 1 DILR set every day to build consistency.
Daily targets are a great idea; just make sure all three sections get regular practice from the beginning.
