I can understand where the confusion is coming from.
Just ignore the difference between his old selling price (2L) and new cost price (3L). Treat these 2 as separate transactions or think of it like he's buying 2 different horses.

So your overall CP = Rs. 1.5 + 3L = 4.5L
Overall SP = Rs. 2L +4L = 6L
Profit is Rs. 15L
Proft % = 15/45*100 = ~33%
