Starting CAT Preparation on My Own – Need Guidance

Asked by Anonymous on 2026-07-06 in CAT Prep

Hi
I want to start preparing for CAT by myself, so I need some guidance, especially for Quant.

My English is good. For DILR, I think I can learn because I love solving puzzles. But for Quant, I need more guidance since I'm not sure how to build my basics and progress to the CAT level. Since I'm preparing on my own, I'm confused about how to start.

Can anyone guide me on:

How should I start my CAT preparation? What free or low-cost resources should I use?
Which YouTube channels or teachers should I follow for Quant, DILR, and VARC?
What should my approach be as a self-preparing student?

Thanks in advance for your help!

you can use arun sharma books + this website is also very helpful .
video lectures for each sub are available too so you can watch and learn from them .
focus on clearing concepts, try to solve questions, complete day to day targets and just analyze ur mistakes and learn from them don't get demotivated !

Just use percentyl and you will get all in one place

Understand the weightage of each topic. For Quants, Arithmetic-Algebra-Geometry-Number System-Modern Math (high to low)
Start with covering the basics of each topic. This website is great becoz it segregates the material all in one place (or if you find any other channels to follow).
Then you can move to solving Arun Sharma book. LOD 1 is just basic practice question, LOD 2 is where your conceptual clarity is tested. LOD 3 - you can leave it or do it only for high weightage topics
Important tip - Don't try to consume all the resources. Stick to 1-2.
