Gap year justification

Asked by Priya on 2026-04-10 in General MBA Doubts

I have a full time work ex of 8 months with 9/7/6 score. My job is getting extremely toxic and hectic due to which i am not able to focus on CAT at all. I am considering to quit my job (in sep i will complete 1 year).
1. is it fine to leave my job before completing 12 months. it does not make much difference or will it create a significant diff.
2. if i quit, how do i justify my gap?
3. i am interested in gymming but i don't want to post on social media. i was considering to get a fitness certification and track my own progress. So is this something which would bring value or will it be not so significant and it's more like a hobby which will be treated as " oh okay u did this.. and.."
4. or i could join an animal rescue ngo. will this be more valuable.

i am really confused if i should quit. on what basis should i decide that.
and this fitness cert or ngo, both of them are equally interesting and imporatant to me. but i can only spare time for one. so which one should i go for if i happen to quit my job.
and what is the latest i should quit my job by.

IIMs give points based on how many months of experience you have, no matter which job which firm. And it is in ranges for example 0-12 months may fetch you 2 marks, 12-24 may fetch 4 marks etc. So, completing 12 months can help. But if it too uncomfortable, best to switch. Not necessarily a gap, you can take up a different job, even one in the fitness industry can help? Maybe work for a fitness startup? Pay doesn't matter - expeirence in terms of months does.

You can use this new tool that I just built which may suggest what all you can do to fill up the gap - https://shwetaarora.in/profile-builder

Both options can help but fitness one (even if not certified) will be an interesting topic of conversation during interviews.
