Is MBA even worth doing if I might not get hired?

Asked by Mayank Khare on 2026-09-13 in General MBA Doubts

I am AI Engineer at an MNC, who is really into equity research and derevatives. I'll keep it short - I want to really, really get into finance and feel that MBA is a sureshot way to get into those sort of buisness related fields BUT I feel that I might not be able to get into the fields I like due to a decision I made in my teens.

Is it even possible to get into fin roles as an engineer - do you guys have seen it happen? I've been recommended to do CFA/NISM courses but its hard taking out time for CAT as is let alone a certification that costs 3L+.

To prove my dedication to finance I still am willing to do but should I? Will it boost my profile that significantly?

Yeah it’s definitely possible to move into finance as an engineer MBA from a good Bschool can help a lot with the switch but it’s not a guarantee of getting into ER/derivatives first focus on CAT and target the best B-school u can CFA/NISM can be considered later if u still feel they add value for the specific role u want or u can do that while doing your MBA
