Need Clarity Regarding Admission Process

Asked by Atharv_05 on 2026-06-14 in General MBA Doubts

Hi Sir/Ma'am,
Greetings!

Could you please help me by clarifying below things?

Why is the cutoff for EWS sometimes higher than the General category even though EWS is a reserved category? Is it because of the composite score.

Can EWS candidates get General/Open seats too? So, does that mean they effectively compete for both Open + EWS seats and therefore have a better chance of conversion?

Is applying in EWS really worth it? Or Should I do via General category only? Some people say the IIMs work differently they won't consider an EWS candidate for the general category seat.

Could you please share some light? Any merits or demerits.

let's say I got a call from the institute on the basis of EWS cut off and later on I performed well and the composite score is good which makes me eligible for general seats then even if I got a call because of EWS category will I be able to take general seat since my composite score is good? Or will I get a EWS seat only since I took a benefit of EWS category to get a call?

On the other hand, if my CAT score is good and I am eligible for getting a call from general category cut off then in worst case scenario if my composite score is not that good then still I will be able to grab EWS seat. Is it correct?

Some people told me if you have applied from EWS category then you will not be considered for general. Is it correct?

What do you think whether I should go via EWS or general? Since WL moment is also low incase of EWS.

I know there are a lot of doubts I mentioned here which will take enough time of you to address. I would highly appreciate any help from your side.

Thank you so much in advance for your help!
