How important is work ex / Internships for top B school as a fresher

Asked by Anonymous on 2026-07-21 in Profile Review

My profile 9/8/7 Male ews
I completed my bachelor's this year and spent all my time in clg club and committees. I also had the chance to be the president of Investment and Finance Club but apart from this i don't have any internships or any work experience. How can I manage this gap?

Also I'm enrolling for 1yr of honours degree and complete 4th year to fill the gap of this year on my resume.

I totally agree 💯 freshers get admitted as well and what you have is a decent fresher profile. I'm very positive about it.

All you gotta do is focus on the marks!

Rest is all good! ☺️
All the best 💯

You don’t need to panic about the gap. A 9/8/7 + EWS profile with club leadership (President of Investment & Finance Club) is already a decent fresher profile.

Internships help, but they are not mandatory for top B-schools. Many freshers convert IIMs without any internship.

If you’re doing the 4th year honours, that itself is a valid explanation. Just try to add 1–2 short finance internships or live projects during this year.

In interviews, you can simply say: I pursued the honours year while preparing for CAT and worked on finance-related projects to gain practical exposure.

That’s completely acceptable. Focus more on CAT score + interview prep than on hiding a gap.
