How should a GEM fresher justify a gap year in MBA interviews?

Asked by Anonymous on 2026-03-27 in Profile Review

I’m a GEM candidate (9/9/7 profile), graduated in 2025. I spent the past year preparing for government exams but couldn’t convert them, and now I’ve decided to pursue an MBA in 2027.

As a fresher with a gap year, how can I justify this gap during MBA interviews? What’s the best way to present this phase positively?

you can say you were preparing for govt exams and include internships or other things you did during that time

Dhriti is absolutely right. Taking govg exams is a valid reason and you can build a strong profile (like you said after CAT). That works!
