Entrance test: CAT 2025 only, for the 2026–28 batch. The percentile column is DoMS's minimum overall CAT percentile to apply, which it also uses as the floor for shortlisting — not the cut-off for the interview call. Degree: A bachelor's degree, or an equivalent qualification, of at least three years after Class XII or a diploma, from a recognised university; graduation marks may also be met as a CPI of 6.0 on 10 (5.0 for SC, ST and PwD). Mathematics: Mathematics must have been a subject in Class XII or the equivalent diploma; applicants without it are not eligible. Final-year students: May apply; admission is provisional until every requirement of the degree is met at joining. Interview call: DoMS sets category-wise cut-offs on the overall CAT percentile after applications close, from the number of eligible applications and approved seats; there are no sectional cut-offs. International applicants: Apply under IIT Kanpur's guidelines for international students. A floor to be considered — not the score that got admitted.

The group discussion and interview call goes by the overall CAT 2025 percentile alone, against category-wise cut-offs DoMS sets once applications close; there are no sectional cut-offs. General, EWS and OBC-NCL applicants and SC and ST applicants are shortlisted and ranked as separate groups. Final composite for 2026–28: scaled CAT 2025 score 20%, Class X and XII marks 20%, work experience 10%, personal interview 35% and undergraduate marks 15%. The published weights name no separate share for the group discussion. Women's composite scores are multiplied by 1.15, capped at 100. A merit list and a wait list are drawn up for each category.
The Department of Management Sciences (DoMS) at IIT Kanpur, in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, was set up in 1974 as an interdisciplinary programme and became a full department in 1988. It started its two-year, full-time MBA in 2001, and also runs M.Tech and PhD programmes.
